This Was The ‘Don’t Fuck With Me’ Day
Yes, that’s right. I had a shitty day.
First, I woke up and then realized that I had signed up to participate in a paid study, but had forgotten and knew that I couldn’t make it on time, so there went some lost lunch money.
Second, I try to call and make an appointment for a mani/pedi this Saturday only to find out that I can’t make any calls? My phone directs me to some machine and no matter which number I call, I get the same shit. So I ask my neighbor to use her cell phone to call my sister, but her phone isn’t working either. (MK was not home and I didn’t want to bother SS since it was early morning). So I figure that what happened was that Sprint decided to cancel both our lines. I had sent them a fax yesterday proving to them that I was moving to an area that was not going to be covered by them in order to get our early termination fees waived. I wasn’t expecting them to act that quickly and cancel both of our accounts because I had been planning to port my number to another service. (Porting means to transfer your number to another service) Anyway, I was stressed out all morning trying to figure out what was going on with our phones and was really stressed out about that. I was already angry with Sprint because they were useless in trying to help me fix my current phone and then they refused to remove charges that I believe my sister and I should not pay (I’ll get into that later).
So I figured that since Sprint was so ready to drop my account, I should go and get my porting done now instead of trying to get them to replace my phone. Actually, I had forgotten all about getting my phone fixed because I just wanted to have a working phone line. So after I got Sprint to reactivate both our lines in order for the port to happen, I had to rush down to the AT&T store to get a new Pay-As-You-Go phone. It took about an hour to get done because the account was in my sister’s name and I had to get all of her information. They asked me for things that I had to look up, which took a while. Because I was trying to deal with all of my phone things, I ended up being an hour late to work and thus had to stay an extra hour to make up for it. On top of that, someone stole my sunglasses while I was dealing with the stuff inside the AT&T store. Bitch.
I finally get my ass to work all stressed out and just not in any mood at all. Luckily, I didn’t deal with too many customers and it was actually a very slow day for us. Thank God for that. I’ll admit that my day after my AT&T stuff went pretty okay. It would have been a good normal day if you just based it on those seven hours because after work, I started my first of four sessions of a self-defense class.
After my class, I go back to the store to pick up my pay check, which I assumed would not have been dropped off during the promised time of 4pm-6pm. I open my stub only to look at the number and feel as if they miscalculated a bunch of crap. So, I go home, where I have an Excel spreadsheet waiting for me to compare what they have written down for me and what I have written down. Note that this is my third paycheck, by the way. On the first two, they gave me paid breaks. Thirty minutes for five to six hours of work and one hour for eight hours of work. Now, on this paycheck, they decided to say fuck it all and gave me no paid breaks, which shorted me to six hours and forty minutes of pay. On top of that, they still didn’t fix my issue of being underpaid by fifty-nine minutes (which I had already notified them of). Even on top of that, I don’t think they’ve properly inputed my tax exemptions. With one allowance, I should be paying no more than 13.5% of my income for taxes. However, I’m paying about 17.5%, which would be the approximate rate if I had no allowances. But I’m about 99.9% positive that I put down one allowance on my W-4 form.
And yes, ladies and gentlemen, that was my day. And I’ve still got all this school work to get done damn it.
Oh, and getting back to the Sprint charges. So, I get a roaming charge for two minutes. During that time, and I remember this specifically, I was up in the hills on a drive so I could enjoy the city lights from above. I had coverage everywhere else on that road, by the way. Apparently, I fell into a “hole,” as the representative called it and during that hole, I received a call. Now, most phones indicate that you’ve fallen into someone else’s network and with that, most know not to take that call unless they’re willing to pay the charges. Now, I was not given any indication whatsoever that I was roaming and it wasn’t as if I was in the middle of nowhere, so I really wasn’t expecting to be roaming. I was about a mile away from the city, two miles maybe, but not fifteen or twenty miles away from the city. I was just a couple hundred feet above the normal level of the city, right? Anyway, the rep tells me that it’s valid and that she’s not going to do shit about it whatsoever.
Okay fine, I was willing to let that one go.
But my sister’s charge is ridiculous. About a month ago, I was calling to see if they could extend a promotion that both my sister and I were on: free 300 text messages a month. It was a nice student promotion and it had finally ended, so I called to see if we could extend it. The first rep said no and he was fiddling around with some shit. He didn’t let me know about what he was doing at all and there was just awkward silence throughout the whole call, so I said fuck it. I hung up and called back in hopes of getting another rep. The second rep told me that our text plans had actually changed. They went from 300 for $5 to 500 for $4. Now, I have to admit that that is a sweeter deal, but I was not given any indication or notice whatsoever that the first rep was making this change. So I say, okay, cool. We get to text more for less money.
Now, what happens when you change service in the middle of your cycle is that they prorate your plan accordingly. So they took 300 messages and divided it by the number of days in the cycle and said, “Okay, this is how much we’re going to cover for you in text messages.” Now, my sister I suppose, went over that prorated limit and so they charged her for it. This makes sense to me that they would consider charging, but it would make more sense if we had just canceled the text message plan. However, we did not cancel; our plan was upgraded to allow us to text more, not less. So… if you’re thinking what I’m thinking, than whatever it was she texted should have just been counted in the new plan which should have taken effect immediately. For the whole month, she still used less than 300 messages.
But nope. The same rep who told me my roaming charges were valid also said that her text charges were valid. What the fuck people, what the fuck.
Anyway, so that was just in the last few days. I’m really pissed off at Sprint’s shitty customer service, but they do have the cheapest plan out there right now, so after I use up all my prepaid minutes for AT&T, I need to go back to Sprint. I decided that paying at least $20 more a month for less shitty customer service was not enough to get me to switch. MH says that my happiness should be worth $20, but I need that for other things right now.
I’m so tired. I would say that I need a break, but technically, I just had one? Except, kind of, not really? Oh well. I’ll live. I’ll survive. Maybe I’ll give that nice massage giving student a call when this is all over… which is hopefully by Saturday afternoon.
