This Is Going To Be Interesting

Before I head to go take a nap, and I do mean a nap because I still have homework, but before I go do that, I am here.

Some good shit is going down at the office in our sales department. Well, I wouldn’t say that they’re “good” things, but some interesting things are happening. One person has left his position, another resigned, and tomorrow, one’s getting fired. It’s going to be fun because the one that’s getting fired, MG, has been claiming that we, The Daily Cal, owe him money from this and that. The commission money I can understand, but the other part of it makes no sense whatsoever. He even had the gall to send an email to say he’s quitting. I mean, is it so hard to come into the office and say, “Hey, I’m going to resign and this is why.” But I guess not. I never thought he was this snippy, but I guess I can see where that came from.

Today I watched a documentary for class, Sentenced Home. It was interesting to see what was happening to some of the Cambodian refugees. I don’t know what passed, but here’s what was happening to some of the refugees: They grew into their teenage years on the “wrong” side of the neighborhood and because of that, committed a felony/crime and was sentenced to prison. Each of the three men documented had served their time properly. Fast forward years and years later, now because they were once imprisoned and had not become a citizen of the U.S., they were placed on the deportation list. They were held in INS detention centers to make sure they wouldn’t flee and they were given very short notice, if any at all, about when they would be deported. There was no appeal process, no case-by-case review. It was pretty much this: “Okay, so you fucked up and now we’re sending you back because Cambodia’s finally caved in to accept you back.” Even if they were sent back, Cambodian officials would then hold the deportees for several months as well.

I just think it’s completely unfair. I mean, how does someone know what “bad” is if “bad” is all that surrounds them? How do they know to be right? Also, for these refugees with such a strong language barrier, no one told them the strong difference between being a permanent resident alien and a citizen. Even then, the test was so long and intimidating with no proper study materials. Also, many of the refugees came as children from a few months old to a few years old. How much more do they know? How much more did they need to suffer in “the land of the free?” It just all sucks and I just don’t see why this needs to happen in the first place, but politics is screwy like that.

Anyway, I plan to take my nap soon.

This Was Productive

I got quite a bit of work done today. I think I clocked it about six hours or so and I do believe that’s the most I’ve ever clocked in since I started. It’s usually been between an hour to four, but never that much more. Oh well. I just wanted to take care of it all so I wouldn’t have a heap load to do on Friday, especially this Friday since I’m planning to head to my parents’ for the weekend.

I’ve decided that insurance companies suck. I know that Moore came out with Sicko and all, but I didn’t watch it and I don’t plan to watch it. The whole system is whack. I mean, my dad pays quite a bit a month for insurance, you know? And for every visit we make, we have a co-pay which likes to suck more money out of our pockets. Not to mention the fact that there are different co-pays for the different types of doctors you need to visit. The school health care isn’t all that great either. I was recommended to see a dermatologist over the summer, but in order to do so, I had to pay some ridiculous fee just to see one.

Back to my spiel about insurance. So anyway, I need to get my second Gardasil shot and since I can’t take a day off just to get one at the office in my hometown, I need to get it in my college town. However, in order for the insurance to cover it, I need to change the primary care physician to the one in my college town. I can’t just go to another doctor in the same network; I actually need to change doctors, which I personally don’t want to do because I still plan on going to the one in my hometown, but for the sake of my Gardasil shots, I need to do this. It’s just a mess of work that I have to do and since it’s my second shot, I had to call the office so they could fax the record of my first shot to the college town doctor. See the all the fuss?

Beside that, I don’t think anything else happened. I grabbed my usual lunch of a Caesar salad and Jamba Juice. I showed up for work and did some internal work. I went home, watched some lectures, which I suggest you all take advantage of here. You have no idea how many resources are available out there for people! There are so many lectures online that you can watch and some of them are amazing too! I’m currently taking Astro C10 from Filippenko and he’s just awesome. You watch one lecture and you feel as if you’ve learned so much in it; he captivates you with his quirkiness. Anyway, it’s a good resource for those who don’t attend the campus but want a feel of the lectures, but it’s a bad motivation for students at the campus to not attend class, which I admit is my folly. But since it’s my only class in the afternoon for Mondays and Wednesdays, I usually just stay at work.

After the lectures, or during I suppose, I started to bake a cake for SB. I know that he likes cake and well, I thought I’d do something nice for a change since I kind of pick on him so much. It’s nice to be able to be… better than where we were a few weeks ago. Now, I admit that this is not my ideal place to be, but I’m trying to build faith and I want to believe that we can someday either get back to where we were or get better than where we were. It will all unfold with time, which is my biggest enemy, but for the good things in life, I think it’s worth waiting for. Like, my nails. I read in a review at MakeUpAlley.com (great resource for makeup reviews by the way) that Omega-3 fish oil helps with the growth and overall improvement of hair and nails, so I bought a bottle and I take about two pills a day. However, I was warned in the reviews that it would take about two months to see results and so I’m waiting for that because I really do want to have healthy nails. I don’t know if I’m taking the right dosage though; I take two pills a day even though the bottle says two pills per meal. It’s just that my meals are kind of sporadic and I don’t want to carry more stuff in my purse than I already do, you know?

So yes, SB and I are working it out. Slowly, but like I said, I’m willing to wait for something this good.
